The 4 Types of People in Network Marketing (Type 1)

13 February, 2008

In Network Marketing, you will have the chance to meet many different types of people from different walks of life. You will meet people that are poor, rich, not so poor and the not so rich. Some of them will end up on your team and make a whole lot of money for you and some will join you and leave your the very next day.

Many business builders wants to recruit people that have the desire to grow their business and not some MLM junkies who just wants to have a piece of every action in 100 over companies. Knowing which type of people to help and guide can significantly optimize your time and money. So how can you identify which group of people are worth spending your time on?

Here’ a break down of the 4 types of people that you can find in your network marketing organization.

Type 1 - The NATOs (No Action, Talk Only)

This group of people probably stands 50% - 70% of the network marketers population. They will join your team highly motivated after they have heard the business opportunities. So you think they are going to be serious? Maybe not. Well, on a second thought, maybe yes after when they sit down with you to discuss about their plans and goals that they want to achieve in the next 3 months. Most of the time, they will make it sound convincing.

Weeks later, they come back with another new set of plans and goals. This time, even more!

“I’m going to make $5000 next month”

“Recruit 50 new members by the end of March”

These are probably what you are going to see on their “goal setting” sheet. They will woah you and make you feel that they are going to get there.

Then two months later, they come back to you and share with you their new goal or objective for the next month but they have do nothing but goal setting, planning and sitting by your side wasting your time.

I’m not trying to be sarcastic here. You need to know who to spend your time on and when to spend your time on. If people like this is going to waste your time and hold you back, they best option for you is to stop entertaining them because to them that’s fun.

My experience

I have experience this before with a newly signed up member. Let’s call him, Tom. He signed up with 3 premium accounts on the very first day and give me an impression that he is an experience network marketer because of the way he talk and his understanding of the business. So I thought to myself, “Can I be so lucky to recruit another experience network marketer?”.

The very next day, Tom called me up, very motivated and driven, he asked me out for tea to discuss about his plans for the business. As usual, I would like to meet up my members and discuss about their plans and also to give my best advise to them. He was early and have prepared his stuff well. He really did impressed me. He then took out a list of people that he claimed that they were his leaders from his previous network marketing company and told me…

“I’m going to get everyone on this list over by this month!”

I was indeed impressed and overwhelmed, and bought into his pitch (he’s probably a born sales person). I believe him completely. Without hesitation, I told him to call us (my team) any time if you need our help to do a presentation. Well of course he called me out… for another “planning” discussion. It went on for several weeks and he still planning.

Months later nothing from him happened. His 3 premium active account turns in to 1 account and soon later he was no where to be found.

This is an example of what a NATO looks like. When it comes to business, time is more valuable than money. If someone is trying to waste your time showing off to you with what he is capable of, making empty promises and asking you out to discuss another plan, think twice! It’s advisable to tell him or her straight up that it’s not going to work if you just going to ask me out for another new plan.

P.S. - Due to the length of the post I have break it into 4 parts for easier reading and understanding. I will schedule the next 3 postings out next week. So if you are interesting for the next few parts of the article please drop a comment and let me know. I’ll email you personally when the posts are up.

P.S.S. - Read about the second type of people you can find in the network marketing industry - The “I can’t do this” type of people.

This person might want to try spellcheck and a brief grammar course before posting.

Thanks Graham for the pointer, my English is not that good. Maybe you would like to be my teacher for the grammar course?
